Accessing Superannuation for Weight Loss

Many of our patients use their superannuation to fund weight loss surgery. Given the serious health problems and reduced life expectancy associated with obesity, you may be eligible to access your superannuation to cover the costs of weight loss surgery.

Eligibility & Application Process

If you are a good candidate for bariatric surgery and do not have the adequate means to cover the cost, you may be able to apply for early release of super on compassionate grounds. If you meet the criteria set by the ATO, you will be able to access the amount required to cover the fee estimate.

We will provide you with all the necessary supporting documentation for your application to the ATO. We recommend you start the process as soon as we provide these to you as the current turnaround of applications can vary between 4-8 weeks.
